Stereohype Button Badge Design Competition 2012
Following the huge success of the first seven design competitions, Stereohype - the graphic art and fashion boutique was announced to have an 8th annual 1" (25mm) Stereohype Button Badge Design Competition.
This competition was open to designers, artists, photographers, illustrators and students worldwide. I took part in designing 4 badges at themes of my choice, but before starting on the badges I had to download templates provided by the Stereohype guidance form. All badges had to within 25mm and be saved/submitted them to their official website as psd files.
1. With the 1st badge design I decided to go with the joker theme from batman movies. It was unique and quite cool to have a character from a well known film. I wanted to add in type as its going across the red smudged lipstick. The laughter in a slightly darker shade- I didn't really want to show it too much as I'm trying to show the face, but not in a clear way. Adding in the bit of type symbolises the jokers character (humor). I wanted the black eye colour to stand out the most, therefore i went into more depth with the brush tool.
2. The 2nd badge design again was based around the joker theme, but playing around with also a well known animated movie character- shrek. I thought it would be quite funny to apply a bit of make-up on shrek, using the same technique as i did with no.1. Again a hint of type added to the lips, one of jokers famous quotes "why so serious?"... quite scary looking but i thought it'll be fun to change him round; but still with greenery so you can identify who he actually it although the ears give it away.
3. The 3rd badge I went towards something completely different from the previous designs. I decided to draw out a pair of ray-ban sunglasses onto photo shop, filling it in with colour and finishing it off with lyrics to a song by Rihanna- "Cheers (drink to that)". Because they are in popular trend and so decided to go ahead with a badge of ray-bans. As the lyrics present the ray-bans in a cool way, its like an advertisement on the shades.
4. The fourth and final badge links in with no.3 design. Ray-bans in red so it stands out. I'm going for frame colours that exist but adding in an extra randomness to it. Using lyrics from song artist Cobra Starship called "Hot Mess", add a little bit of funkiness to it.
